Peritonitis is a life-threatening condition with a mortality rate according to WHO of 5.9 million per year. We report the case of an elderly man who complained of severe pain in the entire abdominal region and the results of a plain abdominal radiograph showed peritonitis and small bowel obstruction. Exploratory laparotomy and ileal resection were performed, and multiple ileal perforations, 120 cm of necrotic ileum and grade IV adhesions were found. There were post-surgical complications of sepsis and the patient died on the seventh post-operative day. Histopathological examination shows images that was not contributory to the diagnosis. There were no features of malignancy or tendency to a specific infection. Non-specific small bowel perforation can be considered as the etiology of peritonitis because there are no specific pathognomonic characteristics. Diagnostic and management of surgical emergencies plays a very important role in patient prognosis.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting individuals of all ages and races. The etiology of AD is multifactorial, involving genetic, immunological, and environmental interactions. Diagnosis is based on patient history, clinical manifestations, and the Hanifin-Rajka criteria, as well as assessments using the Eczema Area and Severity Index (EASI) and SCORing Atopic Dermatitis (SCORAD). This article reports a case of AD accompanied by seborrheic dermatitis. A 15-year-old female presented with itching on the face, accompanied by thick, yellowish scaling on the left side of her face for the past three weeks. Symptoms began with red spots that progressed to pus-filled vesicles and spread to her hands. The patient also experienced yellow, scaly dandruff on her scalp. A history of shrimp allergy and dry skin upon sweating was noted, with poor personal hygiene potentially contributing to the clinical manifestations. The diagnosis of AD with seborrheic dermatitis as a comorbidity was established based on the Hanifin-Rajka criteria (3 major and 3 minor), SCORAD (pre: 67.2; post: 24.3), and EASI (pre: 12.4; post: 5.6), with a negative white dermatographism. Initial treatment included NaCl compresses, oral dexamethasone, and oral cetirizine, which showed improvement after 10 days. Upon follow-up, the patient was prescribed a compounded cream and ketoconazole shampoo, further alleviating symptoms. This management demonstrated positive outcomes, indicating a good response to therapy.

Impairment in multiple domains of cognitive function is referred to as dementia. Alzheimer's dementia (AD) is the most prevalent cause of dementia. AD is associated with the influence of amyloid, oxidative stress, as well as abnormal phosphorylation of the protein Tau which forms neurofibrillary plaques in neurons. Clinical symptoms include progressive memory impairment for current events, cognitive impairment, general confusion, agitation, delusions, social disinhibition, and paranoia. This case report was using manual acupuncture as an adjuvant treatment in the Alzheimer’s dementia to improve cognitive impairment of the patient. A 68-year-old man complained of rapid forgetfulness and decreased cognitive function accompanied by insomnia. Acupuncture manual therapy was performed at points GB20, LI4, HT7, KI3 bilaterally and EX-HN1, EX-HN3, GV20, CV9, CV4, CV3. Combine with scalp acupuncture Zhu Scalp Head and Face, as well as bilateral anterior hypothalamus and master cerebral ear points. Electroacupuncture 2 Hz continuous wave electroacupuncture at points ST25-ST28, CV12-CV6, and ST36-SP6. Therapy is carried out 2 times a week. Evaluation using MMSE and PSQI. After 10 treatments, there was improvement in clinical symptoms, MMSE and PSQI scores. Manual acupuncture and electroacupuncture, a combination of body points, scalp and ear microcupuncture are useful in the management of Alzheimer's dementia accompanied by insomnia as non-pharmacological adjuvant therapy with improvement on MMSE and PSQI score and also clinical symptoms.

Blastocystis sp. is one of the intestinal protozoa that is frequently found in stool specimens of colorectal cancer patients. The clinical aspects of this protozoan are still very controversial. The debate on Blastocystis sp. as a commensal, protecting, or aggravating colorectal cancer still continues. Increased expression of malondialdhyde, a marker of oxidative stress, is associated with the pathogenesis and progressivity of various diseases, including cancer. This study aims to determine the exposure of Blastocystis sp. on malondialdehyde expression in colorectal cancer cell line HT29. This research is an experimental study in vitro. HT29 cells were treated with various concentrations of Blastocystis sp. antigen (0.005 μg/ml, 0.01 μg/ml, 0.05 μg/ml, 0.1 μg/ml and 0.5 μg/ml) for 72 hours. Malondialdehyde expression was examined using spectrophotometric method. The results of statistical analysis using the Kruskall Wallis test showed that there were differences in malondialdehyde expression in HT29 cells after being exposed to Blastocystis sp. in various concentration (p=0.007). Post Hoc test showed that significant differences in malondialdehyde expression were found in the exposure groups of 0.1 and 0.5 μg/ml with the control group, 0.005 and 0.01 μg/ml with 0.1 μg/ml and groups of 0.005 and 0.01 μg/ml with 0.5 μg/ml. So it can be concluded that exposure to Blastocystis sp. with a certain intensity can suppress oxidative stress so that it can protect and inhibit the progressivity of cancer.

Scabies is an infectious skin disease caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei. This mite infestations not only cause skin damage, but can develop into local, even systemic skin infections. An instrument for early detection of scabies is very important in preventing transmission and complications, especially in communities such as Islamic boarding schools. This study aimed to analyze the reliability of the scabies detection form (DESKAB) between Madrasah Aliyah female student rater and dermatovenerologist rater. Based on the results of the examination and Cohen's kappa test, a coefficient of 0.84 was obtained, which means that the level of reliability of the DESKAB form is strong, and a p value of 0.019 means that there is agreement in the perception of the diagnosis of scabies by the two raters. The DESKAB form can be recommended as an early detection instrument for non-medical personnel before being confirmed by medical personnel.

GLOBOCAN stated that prostate cancer is the third most common type of cancer in the world. Previously, prostate cancer incidence rates in Asian populations were lower than Western populations. In recent years, the incidence rate of prostate cancer in Asia has increased rapidly. Indonesia ranks 10th out of 32 Asian countries. Prostate cancer is a multifactorial disease, including age and topographical factors of residence. Prostate cancer risk factors need to be identified to target primary and secondary prevention. Pesticide-specific exposure in rice field areas accumulates in the environment and becomes a pathology. Literature studies from various sources related to these risk factors are still very limited. This study aims to analyze the risk factors of residential topography and age on prostate cancer incidence. An observational analytic study was conducted with a case-control design. 177 samples were obtained by total sampling method, with prostate cancer as the case group and benign prostate hyperplasia as the control group. Age variable parameters are less than or more than 65 years. The residential topography criteria are narrow and large rice fields around the sample residence. The chi-square test result found a significant correlation between residential topography with prostate cancer incidence (p= 0.028, OR= 2.155) and correlation between age factor with prostate cancer incidence (p=0.018, OR=2.187). Age had a 2.009-fold higher risk of prostate cancer incidence than the topography of residence. In conclusion, the topographic profile of the rice field area around the residence and age has a significant risk factor on prostate cancer incidence.

The vector that carries Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is Aedes aegypti. Various strategies have been implemented to control the spread of the Aedes aegypti, one of which is using temephos larvicide. The usage of temephos increases resistance to Aedes aegypti and environmental pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a bio-larvicide using ceremai leaf (Phyllanthus acidus) and zodia leaf (Evodia suaveolens). The purpose of this study was to assess the toxicity of ceremai and zodia leaf extracts on the death of Aedes aegypti larvae. This form of research is a true experiment with a Completely Randomized Design. Third-instar Aedes aegypti larvae were used as the research sample. There were seven groups, including one negative control (aquadest and tween20), one positive control (temephos 0.008%), and five treatment groups (ceremai leaf and zodia leaf extract). Larval mortality data were observed after 24 hours of exposure. The Kruskal Wallis test revealed a significant difference in death rates across groups (p : 0.020, p < 0.05). Zodia leaf extract 0.2% had the highest toxicity, while ceremai leaf extract did not show any mortality of Aedes aegypti larvae. The probit test results of zodia leaf extract showed LC50 and LC90 of 0.075% and 0.121% within 24 hours of exposure. Zodia leaf ethanol extract has effectiveness as larvicide of Aedes aegypti.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a neuromuscular disease characterized by tingling, pain and sensory disturbances in the palms and fingers due to compression of the median nerve which is in the carpal tunnel. One of the risk factors for CTS is that repetaed wrist flexion-extension movements over a long period of time can trigger mechanical trauma or ischemia to the median nerve. Rujak (Indonesian traditional salad) seller is one of the jobs that is at risk of experiencing CTS. This research was conducted to determine the relationship between duration and frequency of work and symptoms and severity of CTS in rujak sellers in Glenmore District, Banyuwangi Regency. This cross-sectional analytical observational study was conducted from April to June 2024 and involved 59 respondents. Data was collected through interviews using questionnaires on work duration, work frequency, CTS symptoms and the Indonesian version of the Boston Carpal Tunnel Syndrome Questionnaire (BCTQ). The results of the Spearman analysis show a significant relationship between work duration and CTS symptoms (p=0.005) with a moderate correlation coefficient of 0.361. The results of data analysis also show a significant relationship between work frequency and CTS symptoms (p=0.000) with a strong correlation coefficient of 0.595. This research concluded that the duration and frequency of work had a significant positive relationship with the symptoms and severity of CTS. The longer the duration of work and the more frequent the frequency of work, it can increase the risk of CTS and increase the severity of CTS.
