Abstract

School age children are a group that is vulnerable to consuming unhealthy foods, especially snacks sold in the school environment. Lack of understanding about food safety can increase the risk of health problems due to unhygienic food ingredients and containing hazardous substances. This community service activity aims to improve the understanding of elementary school students in Anggadita Village, Karawang, about the importance of choosing safe, clean, and healthy foods. The implementation method includes interactive lectures, educational video screenings, live demonstrations, and pre-test and post-test evaluations of 264 students in grades 4, 5, and 6. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in student understanding, from 34.8% who understood the material before the counseling to 92.8% after the activity. The conclusion of this activity is that food safety education that is packaged in an attractive way and in accordance with the child's age has proven to be effective in increasing students' knowledge and awareness in choosing safe foods, as well as encouraging the formation of healthier consumption habits from an early age.
