Jember Medical Journal https://journal.unej.ac.id/JMJ
Jember Medical Journal publishes peer-reviewed original articles, case reports and literature review in basic medical research, clinical research, and applied medical science. This journal is published twice (May and November) by Faculty of Medicine Universitas Jember. Articles are original research that needs to be disseminated and written in English or Indonesia. All submitted manuscripts will go through the double-blind peer review and editorial review before being granted with acceptance for publication.

Jember Medical Journal was issued for the first time in 2022. Stem cell therapy, still being studied, is expected to repair ischemic areas damaged by stroke to restore their physiological functions and reduce
neurological deficits in chronic stroke patients. This study aimed to determine the therapeutic efficacy of MSCs in reducing neurological deficits in chronic ischemic stroke patients. We conducted a systematic review. We searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, and Springer Link from inception until December 2022 for cohort studies dealing with mesenchymal stem cell therapy for patients with ischemic stroke. The citation-searching method in this study collected 1,038 articles using the advanced searching method and 8 articles using the citation-searching method, bringing the total number of articles to 1,046. The exclusion criteria used were articles with systematic reviews and meta-analyses and articles that were not accessible in full text. Based on the results of a systematic review study conducted, the conclusion that can be drawn is that MSCs therapy has proven effective in reducing neurological deficits in chronic ischemic stroke patients in terms of the decreased NIHSS score.
Muhammad Afiful Jauhani Latiefah Noer Widiastuti Muhammad Naufal Hibatullah Samuel Hendrik Marpaung Copyright (c) 2024 Jember Medical Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-11-12 2024-11-12 3 2 100 116 10.19184/jembermedicaljournal.v3i2.1200 A Stillborn Baby with Tetra-amelia Syndrome in Jember: A Case Report https://journal.unej.ac.id/JMJ/article/view/1057
Tetra-amelia syndrome is a rare congenital disorder characterized by the absence of all four extremities. This extremity disorder occurs in 1 in 1,300 to 2,000 births. This condition is caused by genetic mutations in the WNT3 and RSPO2 genes. Specific risk factors for tetra-amelia syndrome remain unclear. This is also due to the lack of studies that discuss specific risk factors for tetra-amelia syndrome. In this case report, we discuss a stillborn baby with tetra-amelia syndrome to a mother with various pregnancy risk factors in Jember. This case report aims to examine the presence of several risk factors in the mother and their relationship with congenital disorders, especially tetra-amelia syndrome.
Daniel Alexander Suseno Achmad Haykal Baswedan Muhamad Dwi Eka Putra Muhammad Haikal Supriyadi Wahyuning Pangestu Copyright (c) 2024 Jember Medical Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-11-12 2024-11-12 3 2 72 78 10.19184/jembermedicaljournal.v3i2.1057 Anesthetic Management of Laparoscopic Surgery on a Pediatric Patient: Case Report https://journal.unej.ac.id/JMJ/article/view/1160
Inguinal hernia is an opening on myofascial oblique muscle and transversal muscle or the failure of Nuck canal or processus vaginalis during the gestation week which allows herniation of intra-abdominal or extraperitoneal organ. A 5-year-old child was diagnosed with a left lateral inguinal hernia. The results of the inguinal ultrasound showed movement and movement of the intestines in the left inguinal area through a defect measuring approximately 2.96 centimeters. The patient was planned to undergo laparoscopic high ligation hernia. Laparoscopic technique in adult commonly applied with special consideration. However, the practice in pediatric patient could be more challenging for anesthesiologist. Although laparoscopic surgery is less invasive it could cause more stress due to the pressure of the intra-abdominal pneumoperitoneum by CO2 that is done during the procedure, which then causes hypercapnea due to the absorption of CO2, the decrease of tidal volume, and the decrease of end-tidal volume. Considering pediatric’s different physiology compared to adult and the risks of laparoscopic surgery, special anesthesia management should be conducted.
Adelia Handoko Taufiq Gemawan Arinie Awindya Lubis Copyright (c) 2024 Jember Medical Journal https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0 2024-11-12 2024-11-12 3 2 79 87 10.19184/jembermedicaljournal.v3i2.1160
