Through the STEAM approach, children can develop various essential life skills, stimulating and encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving abilities. All Kids Learning House is one of the early childhood schools in the city of Madiun. Based on observations and interviews with teachers at the school, it was found that, indirectly, learning activities at All Kids already incorporate the STEAM approach. The challenge lies in designing a cohesive learning activity that involves all five STEAM disciplines. In response to this, the community service team collaborated with the teachers at All Kids to create learning activities that accommodate all five STEAM disciplines. The process involved observation, problem identification, activity planning, conducting socialization and training sessions, implementation, and evaluation. The goal of this initiative is to assess teachers' ability to design learning activities using the STEAM approach. Success parameters for teachers include classroom management skills, the ability to develop worksheets, and student responses. This initiative aims to empower residents to manage organic waste by applying composter reactor technology through anaerobic fermentation methods within residential areas. To implement this program, we have partnered with the BSU ASRI BMP Waste Bank Unit, which has been active since 2021 and possesses experience and expertise in waste management. The activity began with planning, followed by a series of steps including socialization, demonstrations, the creation, and distribution of composters. The program concluded with an evaluation to assess the sustainability and effectiveness of the activities carried out. The results show that the application of composter reactor technology on the dasa wisma community has successfully transformed household waste into compost and liquid organic fertilizer. These products have been used as planting media and fertilizers for ornamental and horticultural plants at home gardens. Additionally, the use of decomposers has significantly reduced the volume of organic waste previously discarded by converting it into valuable products.
2023-11-30T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Jurnal Inovasi Sains dan Teknologi untuk Masyarakathttps://journal.unej.ac.id/instem/article/view/1158Application of Appropriate Technology Purification Oil Based on Cocoa Bark (Theobroma cacao L.) Cooking oil repeatedly changes color to a darker color, produces an unpleasant odor, and has high levels of fatty acids. Cooking oil experiences changes due to the chemical properties of cooking oil, such as a reaction where the color changes to brown when cooking oil is used at high temperatures by reacting with air. Therefore, it is necessary to purify used cooking oil to be used as a material that is more beneficial to society. The utilization of cocoa shell waste into carbon that has been processed is used for the adsorption process of purification of used cooking oil. The process of purifying used cooking oil begins with making activated charcoal, chemical activation of activated charcoal with hydrochloric acid (HCl), assembling appropriate technology for oil purification, adsorption process of used cooking oil which goes through several stages of purification, namely zeolite stone, cotton, cocoa charcoal, cotton and filter cloth. , and the process of using purified used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles. The materials used in making candles are paraffin and used cooking oil in a 1:1 ratio. Candles are packaged attractively to provide consumers and add selling value. This activity attracted the enthusiasm of the community to utilize used cooking oil into aroma therapy candles. In addition, the Panti Village Tourism Awareness Group is interested in utilizing used cooking oil to make souvenir aroma therapy candles at Panti village tourist attractions. It is hoped that using used cooking oil that has been purified into aromatherapy candles will become a source of income for the people of Kedaton Plantation, reducing waste disposal so that the environment will be better protected.
2023-11-30T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Jurnal Inovasi Sains dan Teknologi untuk Masyarakathttps://journal.unej.ac.id/instem/article/view/1575Community Empowerment in Processing Snake Fruit into 'Salak Pie' Products as an Effort to Downstream the Commodity and Potential Alternative for Supplementary Feeding to Prevent Stunting in Sumberurip Village2024-09-18T08:05:58+07:00Muhammad Afiful Jauhaniafifuljauhani.fk@unej.ac.idEcha Amalia Putrikedokteranforensik@gmail.comFaisal Kevin Asti Purnomokedokteranforensik@gmail.comFirzanah Bilqis Aidakedokteranforensik@gmail.comHellen Maretha Ariefianto Putrikedokteranforensik@gmail.comIcha Fahrriza Putrikedokteranforensik@gmail.comIka Putri Wahyuningtyaskedokteranforensik@gmail.comIntan Pramestinasarikedokteranforensik@gmail.comLailatul Nur Azizahkedokteranforensik@gmail.comPriskila Haryuningtyas Ngantungkedokteranforensik@gmail.comRizaldy Andy Wijayakedokteranforensik@gmail.comSuhartatinkedokteranforensik@gmail.comZakiyah Maulidatul Hasanahkedokteranforensik@gmail.com
Sumberurip Village, located in Pronojiwo District, Lumajang Regency, is predominantly an agricultural village where most of the community members farm salak (snake fruit). Up until now, the agricultural yield has primarily been marketed as raw produce. Additionally, stunting remains a critical issue in Lumajang Regency. Common challenges include highly fluctuating prices for salak, which tend to drop during harvest season due to an abundant supply, as well as the community’s limited knowledge and skills in processing and managing the fruit beyond raw sales. The Community Service Program for Village Development (KKN-UMD) of Jember University, Group 290, held in July - August 2024, aims to empower the Sumberurip community by increasing the value of salak through the creation of Salak Pie, which could also serve as an alternative snack for supplementary feeding programs (PMT) to help prevent stunting. The activities are conducted by providing training to the community on how to process salak into salak pie, as well as strategies for promoting and marketing these products. The Village Government and the community have warmly welcomed this initiative, considering it highly beneficial for enhancing the market value of their salak harvests and offering a nutritious local food alternative. The purpose of this community service is to equip the people of Sumberurip Village with knowledge and skills to process salak into Salak Pie, which is intended to boost the local economy while also providing a nutritious alternative for supplementary feeding programs.
2023-11-30T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Jurnal Inovasi Sains dan Teknologi untuk Masyarakathttps://journal.unej.ac.id/instem/article/view/1510The Application of Distillation Technology of Rhizomes Essential Oils in TOGA Community of Sari Hutani in the Border Area of Meru Betiri National Park2024-08-18T10:15:50+07:00Ika Oktavianawatiika.fmipa@unej.ac.idI Nyoman Adi Winataadiwinata.fmipa@unej.ac.idJoni Murti Mulyo Ajijoni.faperta@unej.ac.id
The TOGA Sari Hutani group has been actively producing traditional herbal medicine using basic ingredients of rhizomes harvested from their gardens. The problem faced by the TOGA group is that the existence of post-harvest rhizomes cannot last well for up to 2-3 months. Meanwhile, the rhizomes used as herbal medicine products have exceeded capacity, especially because consumers and marketing are still limited. According to this, the community service program team from the University of Jember proposed a product diversification from rhizomes in the form of essential oils. This product has a higher selling value and a longer shelf life than traditional herbal medicine products. Essential oil distillation technology has been applied through various activities, such as counselling, distillation practices, mentoring, and monitoring of essential oil production. The Al Kaff essential oil trader, as the second partner in this community service program, is also actively present to provide mentoring regarding essential oil product standards on the market and agreed to become an agent for collecting essential oil products produced by the Sari Hutani group.
2023-11-30T00:00:00+07:00Copyright (c) 2024 Jurnal Inovasi Sains dan Teknologi untuk Masyarakathttps://journal.unej.ac.id/instem/article/view/1577Mitigating the Impact of Flood Disaster Risk in Wonoasri Village, Tempurejo District, Jember Regency2024-10-08T10:47:55+07:00Rendy Setiawanrendy.fmipa@unej.ac.idKrisnamurtirendy.fmipa@unej.ac.idLuh Putu Indah Budyawatirendy.fmipa@unej.ac.idAnik Suwandarirendy.fmipa@unej.ac.idGalih Wicaksonorendy.fmipa@unej.ac.idHaris Cahyonorendy.fmipa@unej.ac.idSyafira Lailatul Ulfa Marfuahrendy.fmipa@unej.ac.id
Flooding is a natural disaster that often occurs in several village areas in Tempurejo Sub-district, Jember Regency, one of which is in Wonoasri Village.
